Somerled Square is the main square of Portree. The A87 from the Skye Bridge, the A855 up Trotternish and the A850 to Dunvegan all meet here, and the harbour is five minutes downhill on foot.
Driving to Portree
From Inverness, two hours on the A87 across the Skye Bridge, which is free and open around the clock. From Glasgow or Edinburgh, allow five to six hours by the bridge. The Mallaig to Armadale ferry is the scenic way in from Fort William, half an hour on the water, and needs booking ahead; without a booking, stay on the road for the bridge.
Portree is the last fuel and the biggest supermarket for most of the island, so fill up and stock up here before heading north or west.

Parking at The Portree Hotel
We do not have a private car park. Guests use the public car park on Somerled Square, directly outside the front door. It is free between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m., which covers an overnight stay; in the daytime it is pay and display.
Staying longer, or arriving with a second vehicle? The Bayfield long-stay car park is a short walk away, down towards the harbour.

Buses to Portree Stop Outside
Scottish Citylink coaches stop on Somerled Square, a few steps from the door. The 917 runs from Inverness; the 915 and 916 run from Glasgow through Fort William, continuing to Uig for the Outer Isles ferry. Book seats in advance on the Citylink website, especially in summer.
Local Stagecoach services for the Storr, Staffin, Uig and Dunvegan leave from the same square, so a car-free stay from here works.
